Yesterday had a great afternoon out at Bashall Eaves Barn, near Clitheroe & then Backridge Farm, near Waddington in the picturesque Ribble Valley in Lancashire! The North-West Reptile Club were there creating awareness regarding the wonderful world of lizards, snakes and other reptiles; in the new Profile Photo you see a rather frisky Python on its way to exploring my neck & Adams Apple-it was a day overdue in eating, so I was hoping it wasn't looking for a quick snack! Today they are at Backridge again, this time they are going to have 6 ft Iguanas for you Iguana lovers! Border Terriers date back to around the time of the 1700's, originating from the Borders of England & Scotland; hence the name! (Although sometimes their name is spelt incorrectly as Border Terriors!) A very distinctive looking dog with what has been described as having an 'Otter shaped head', their coats are normally a shade of grizzle or dark grey and tan, blue and tan, red, or wheaten, which is a shade of pale yellow or beige.

Border Terriers were valued by their owners centuries ago for hunting down foxes, badgers, mice & rats..they were able to keep up with riders on horseback, and also squeeze down small holes in the ground to chase out animals hiding in there. Sadly, many were fed little food, if any, by their owners, to develop their hunting instincts.

As a breed, they were registered by the Kennel Club of Great Britain in 1920, and by the American Kennel Club in 1930.

Intelligent and eager to please, Border Terriers still retain the capability to think independently & show inititative that was bred into them all those years ago.
